The Mavericks welcome anyone to come and give paddling a go on Saturday mornings at Bank Street. We invite you to come along and bring your friends.
We train at Bank Street from 9:00 am and we’ll show you what it is all about. The cost is $10 and you’ll need to fill out a details form.
We train on the water starting from underneath the Anzac Bridge (Bank Street) in Pyrmont, Sydney (scroll down for map). It’s a good idea to bring a water bottle, a towel, shoes that can get wet and a spray jacket to keep dry. We often head for a coffee at the local cafe after the session, so leave a wram jumper in your car for afterwards.
Winter is the “off” season, so training is more relaxed, and will focus on technique and fitness. It is a great time to try dragon boating and see what you think. Being on the water on a sunny morning is great for the soul!
For more information contact Charmaine (Char) or just let Char know when you’ll be coming, so we can look out for you, on info@mavsdb.com
A MESSAGE FROM OUR COACH
Dragon Boating is a fun sport that suits all levels of fitness and ability. So if you are keen to get some exercise and make some new friends you’ve come to the right place. Regardless of whether you are complete beginner who wants to try something new or a more serious athlete who wants to compete at a representative level, we can meet your needs.
Mavericks are a club who have refined the balance of fitness with fun. During training sessions while we strive to meet individual and team goals because we love to win races, we also want you to go away with a sense of enjoyment. We maintain a long tradition of keeping the social and competitive balance right.
Dragon boat racing is a great team sport and competing at regattas is a great way to experience the thrill of racing with your team mates. There are numerous health benefits and I have a great coaching team who will teach you how to paddle well and develop good technique.
Its a great time of year to be out on the water so if you’re thinking about trying it, come down to Bank Street and give it a go. It’s a great way to start the weekend and we’d love to have you on board.

REGATTAS
Mavericks is a social Club with a full fun calendar of events, including competitive regattas during the season. Regattas are a great day or weekend away in the sun, usually followed by a few drinks at The 3 Weeds, our sponsor. We paddle all year round. So why not come and give it a try. We’d love to meet you!
PADDLERS’ COURSES
The Mavericks Dragon Boating Club run formal beginner dragon boating courses for anyone who is keen to pick up a paddle! The courses run at paticular times during the year, and are a great way to spend a morning cruising around Sydney Harbour and meeting new people! You can get more information by going to Sydney Community College.
Mavericks also run informal paddling sessions on Saturday mornings.
